Starting an account on a new social media platform can be daunting.  It can be hard figuring out how to make changes to your account, how to post, or how to access the content you want to see.  Here is a list of tips to help you understand how to use TikTok.

Making Your Account Private

If you don’t want your videos available for anyone to see, you should make a private profile.  That way, only the people who you let follow you can view your videos.  To do this, go from your profile and click on the three dots in the upper right corner.  From there, go to privacy and safety and turn on private account.

QR Code

A QR code is a great way to add new friends on TikTok.  To find your QR code or scan someone else’s, go to your profile and select the three dots in the upper right corner.  Then, under account press on TikCode.  There, you will see your QR code and have the ability to download it, or scan someone else’s.

Posting a Video

There are 2 options for uploading a video to TikTok, you can either use a video you recorded and edited outside of the app, or you can record and edit your video within the app.  If you want to use a video made outside of the app, press the plus at the center of the bottom of the screen.  From there, select upload at the bottom right corner.  To record a video within the app, you also press the plus button, but instead of pressing upload hold down the red circle to record.  If you don’t want to hold down the red circle for the entire video you can select the timer option on the right side of the screen.  By using the timer, the video will record after a countdown for the selected amount of time.

How to Delete a Video

Sometimes you upload a video that seems great in the moment, but later you decide you no longer want it on your page.  To delete a video off of your page, select the video and go to the share icon which is at the bottom right corner.  From there, press delete video.

How to Save a Video as Gif or Live Photo

To save a video as a Gif or live photo, select the share icon at the bottom right corner.  Then, select the save as Gif or save as a live video option.

Duet

One of the most interesting and unique features of TikTok is the ability to duet another person’s video.  To do this, select the share icon at the bottom right corner.  Then, select the duet option.  Record your duet like a normal TikTok.

Using Sounds

The sound you select is one of the most important aspects of a TikTok is the sound you choose to accompany it.  If you watch a video and like the sound they used, press the sound which is displayed at the bottom right corner of the screen.  From there, it will take you to all of the videos with that sound.  If you want to make your own video with that sound, select the “use this sound” button.
